The Keio Plaza Hotel is a large, luxurious establishment a few blocks west of Shinjuku Station. With an army of uniformed bellhops, kimono-clad musicians playing koto in the lobby and a ground floor paved with miles and miles of marble, it exudes old-school class and charm. It has maintained its status as one of the country’s leading international hotels for years.
The Keio Plaza has a whopping 1,440 guest rooms and over 20 restaurants and bars. The latter are particularly useful because the Nishi-Shinjuku area is very different from other parts of Shinjuku in that it is mainly an office and government district, with few eateries.
On the bright side, though, the Plaza is only a few minutes’ walk from the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Buildings, Tokyo’s city hall, which has free top-floor observatories offering views of the capital and, if you’re lucky, Mt. Fuji.
