NEWoMan is the latest shopping mall at Shinjuku Station. It’s a mix of fashion boutiques, food shops, cafes, bakeries and restaurants, but it also has some fine views of the south side of Shinjuku as well as trains coming into the station. Lumine 1 Shopping Mall
Occupying 11 floors including two basements and a roof terrace on the southwest corner of the Shinjuku Station complex, Lumine 1 is a compact shopping mall concentrating on fashion. Read more
Lumine 2 Shopping Mall
Making up one-third of the Lumine shopping complex at Shinjuku, the seven-story Lumine 2 mall is centered on fashion and household goods. It’s directly connected to JR Shinjuku Station and its first floor begins immediately to the east of the station’s South Gate. Read more
Lumine EST Shopping Mall
The largest of the three Lumine malls at Shinjuku, Lumine Est has 10 floors including two basements and nearly 300 shops, with a focus on women’s fashion, accessories, shoes and dining options. Read more

Odakyu Department Store is a massive complex dominating the western side of JR Shinjuku Station. Odakyu Department Store offers everything from sportswear to luxury fashion brands and freshly made deli-counter food. Read more
Odakyu HALC
Odakyu HALC is an annex of the Odakyu Department Store’s Main Building at Shinjuku Station. It’s slightly smaller than the main complex and is focused on electronics, sports goods and food. Along with part of the second floor, the third through sixth floors of HALC are taken up by Bic Camera, a major electronics retailer. Read more

A few blocks east of Shinjuku Station stands Isetan Shinjuku, the flagship store of the Isetan Department Store chain. The elegant 1933 building reflects the store’s status as one of the grand old ladies of Japanese retailing. Read more

Takashimaya is a renowned Japanese department store that offers a wide selection of luxury goods. Takashimaya Shinjuku takes up the lion’s share of a massive 16-storey building called Takashimaya Times Square on the south-east side of Shinjuku Station. Read more
Shinjuku Marui Honkan (OIOI)
Shinjuku Marui Honkan (OIOI) is a department store in Shinjuku that mostly caters to women in the 25 to 30 age bracket, though it also has a menswear floor. Part of a retail chain concentrated in the Tokyo region, Marui is a more budget-oriented collection of shops focused on younger fashion compared to the opulent Isetan Shinjuku across the street and Takashimaya Shinjuku. Tokyu Hands is a popular department store chain that escapes easy definition. It calls itself a “hint market” and specializes in everything from plumbing supplies and interior goods to character merchandise and stationery, with an emphasis on home improvement and hands-on projects. Read more

Keio Department Store is one of the major retail complexes at Shinjuku Station. Like Odakyu, it’s owned by a railway conglomerate and located on the west side of Shinjuku Station. Read more

Bic Camera is a large electronics retailer with a lot more than just the latest cameras and other digital gadgets. Bic Camera carries everything from smartphones to video games, toys, home appliances and alcohol. Read more
Yodobashi Camera Shinjuku
Across the street from the west side of Shinjuku Station, you’ll find one of Tokyo’s largest electronics shops: Yodobashi Camera. The flagship branch of this national chain, named after a former Shinjuku town and opened in 1975, is a sprawling group of 13 “pavilions” (buildings and nearby shops) that has far more than just cameras. Shinjuku Mylord is a compact shopping mall located in the southwest corner of the Shinjuku Station complex. While it focuses on fashion for younger women, it’s smaller than rival Lumine, which is also part of the Shinjuku Station complex. Read more

The south side of Shinjuku Station is also a good spot to shop for English-language books. Immediately to the south of the main Takashimaya Times Square building you’ll find a large branch of the Kinokuniya bookstore chain. Read more
